Gordon Mayo - Chairman CEO


Gordon started hairdressing after finishing school in 1972, he then started working as a junior for two years. He then left to study at the London Institute of Hairdressing for two years while also taking other courses with leading salons. When he came back to Malta he started managing a hairdressing salon before moving on to opening his own salon ‘Gordon's Creations' in 1976. Gordon continued attending courses in London and participating in activities at Salon International Fair. He started competing in international competitions and took third place in a competition organized by Schwarzkopf, while also being advertised in ‘Hairdressing Journal'.
In 1978 he was nominated to be a secretary of the Maltese Hairdressing Guild and managed to convince the authority of that time to open a hairdressing school which is still up till today and known as MCAST.
He started bringing qualified teachers from salons abroad to train his staff, and that lead to becoming an Artistic Director for TONI&GUY Academy London. Gordon remained attending various courses with other known companies like Wella, L'Oreal, Zotos, KMS and TIGI.
In 1989 TONI&GUY started franchising in England and the first European salon opened in Germany in 1990. TONI&GUY Malta opened its first salon on the 21st June 1994 and Gordon was allocated as the local franchisor. At that time only three salons were open in Europe and this was the first step to free education to the Maltese hairdressing industry. Now there are a total of five salon's; Gzira, Hilton, Paceville, Plaza and Arkadia Gozo.Gordon was appointed as chairman and CEO of TONI&GUY Malta, and since then he has done various fashion shows, TV shows, stage shows and also educational training programmes on radio and TV stations. TONI&GUY Malta have also been featured on many foreign and local magazines front covers as well as being affiliated with local and foreign celebrities who participate in local shows or contests like the Eurovision Song Contest.TONI&GUY won the outstanding achievement award during the 2008 Malta National Fashion Awards and were the first to ever be recognized with such an award

 


Nigel Bonnici – Art Director


Nigel started out in the hairdressing industry about eight years ago as a junior and worked his way up over the years, while attending various courses in Malta and in London. He joined TONI&GUY 4 years ago after gaining extensive experience in cutting and colouring. While working at TONI&GUY he made his way up from apprentice to Senior Stylist and Technician over a short period of time. Nigel's greatest job satisfaction is when he see his clients leave the salon happy with their new colour and cut. He is a very gifted stylist and technician who also does hair extensions.

 


Maria Tonna – Head Technician


Maria first started working with Gordon Mayo in 1985 when he had his opened his first salon ‘Gordons Creations'. She continued working with him when he opened TONI&GUY in 1994. After remaining with TONI&GUY for eleven years she went on to open her own salon which she ran for the past twelve years. Maria recently rejoined TONI&GUY and is an asset to the company with all the experience she has gathered over the years. Maria has attended various courses overseas of TONI&GUY as well as other leading hairdressers.

Amanda Micallef -  Senior Technician


Amanda started working part time as an apprentice at a young age. Once she completed her education she started working full time at a salon helping out as a junior. As the years passed she progressed into studying colour techniques and went overseas to Bologna to study. When she came back she continued working and attending various courses. Amanda started working with TONI&GUY four years ago as a technician and worked her way up. Her greatest job satisfaction is applying all her experience to help clients achieve their desired look.

 


Debbie Vella – Senior Stylist


Debbie Vella started working as an apprentice with TONI&GUY in Gozo at a young age. After four years as a Senior Stylist she moved to New York to further her education. While in New York she worked for Vidal Sassoon and also attended a course with TIGI Academy and also TONI&GUY in London. After gaining extensive experience in New York she moved back to Malta and started working at TONI&GUY in Gzira. Debbie says she gathers her inspiration from Artistic Director Gordon Mayo and the other Art Directors in London. Her main goal is to always exceed customer satisfaction and have her clients leave with the latest styles.

Sarah Vella - Technician


Sarah Vella started working at Ryans Hair Salon in San Gwann eight years ago. She started as a part time apprentice and after completing her studies she moved on to work full time at the salon. Sarah then progressed to become a Technician and remained working at Ryans while also furthering her studies. She started working with TONI&GUY about seven months ago and this year plans to attend courses that TONI&GUY Academy provide. Her greatest job satisfaction is achieving the clients desired look and to always make sure every client leaves happy.

  Svetlana Debono: Style Director


Svetlana Debono joined TONI&GUY Hilton in 2004. Being Style Director you are constantly creating new and innovative ideas , most of all when it comes to hair up for parties and weddings or at other occassions.
Svetlana says " I like to work with different hair textures and colours and here at the Hilton we come across that all the time. This makes my work very colourful . Also our work is both classic as well modern. I love creating different looks styles and colours . Svetlana is also responsible for the on going education of the salon.

 


Marija Farrugia: Technical Director


Marija has been with the company since 1999 . She is a very creative colourist who has worked her way up within the company , after spending some time working on the floor , Marija attended the TONI&GUY Academy in London where she went through an adavanced stage in colouring, on completeing her course she flew to Australia where she joined TONI&GUY Australia, for a period of time. Marija then returned and joined TONI&GUY Hilton in 2006. Marija says " Its great to be able to meet so many different people from all over the world under one roof and being able to communicate through the world of hairdressing at the salon. Marija is also responsible for hair extensions.

Yesnia Tanti : Senior Technician


Yesnia joined TONI&GUY Hilton in 2004 as a junior and made her way up into the technical side of colouring. Yesnia says " this is my fifth year with the company and i have achieved alot . Its fantastic to be able to work with clients from all over the world and to be able to work along the stylists and together we create . We are always making sure that the clients are happy and that the treatment is that of a five star service . Colour complements the cut so it is vital to achieve the right colour shade for your look . it enhances the total look . Our clientele is vast so we adapt according to ones lifestlye. "

Becky Burr:  Senior Stylist


Becky joined TONI&GUY HILTON in as a junior in 2001 . She then went through the TONI&GUY educational system to become a stylist and then moved on to become a Senior Stylist . Her day to day work includes cutting as well as styling and upstyles. Becky says " my position within the company gives me a feeling of pride and accomplishment for it enables me to live my dream and be a part of this fantastic team ."

Clyde Burlo – Creative Stylist and Director


Clyde started hairdressing in 2000 as a junior with TONI&GUY in Gzira and he worked his way up to a stylist in August 2002 after he attended the TONI&GUY Academy in London. There he attended a 6 week course called ‘Vadering' where he was intensively trained. Since then he has also gone on to teach students. When he became a top stylist he started gaining experience by working in each of the TONI&GUY salons in Malta and Gozo. This made him stronger as a stylist as he met different clients from all over the two islands and it also helped him build up a strong clientele. He continued his studies by attending the course at the TONI&GUY Academy and his dream was to always own a TONI&GUY salon. Clyde's dream was achieved when the Paceville salon was opened in 2007 and he has been working and managing it ever since. Last year Clyde had the opportunity to accompany Morena to Serbia who was representing Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest. He has also been featured on various local television shows.

Nicky Okapara – Senior Technician


Nicky started working as a Junior with TONI&GUY in 2002. From there she worked her way up over two years and became Assistant Technician. She trained and worked in all of the TONI&GUY salons and believes it gave her good experience in being able to work in any situation and place. Nicky is now Senior Technician at the Paceville salon and looks forward to going to work every day as she enjoys her job.

Tina Spiteri –  Stylist


Tina has been working for TONI&GUY for the past three years. She first started working at the Hilton salon and then moved on to the Paceville salon. Tina's training involved intensive cutting courses under the supervision of Style Director . The courses she attended took her through all the classic cuts and techniques to become a top stylist. Tina prides herself in keeping up to date with all the latest styles. She always does her best to keep the client happy and provide a five star service to everyone. Tina loves working with TONI&GUY and will also be continuing her education by attending the TONI&GUY Academy in London.

Gozo

Lara Theuma – Senior Stylist/Salon Manager


Even though it might sound clichéd, hairdressing has always been Lara's passion. She knew from a young age that it was her choice of profession. In fact she was only 15 years old when she walked into the TONI&GUY salon in Gzira and signed up as a junior. A year later she moved to Gozo in the position of Assistant Stylist and she has now worked her way up to the position she currently holds today which is of Salon Manager. Lara believes that this profession gives her a lot of job satisfaction. Lara says "From helping someone embark on a complete change of style, to having a new client eagerly book again, to slowly building a genuine rapport with our regular clients, it is a job which is more than just a job. It's an experience for me."

Heidi Fenech – Senior Technician


Heidi joined the TONI&GUY family after having previously spent seven years with another salon. Despite her being with another salon before she was more than willing to start her learning experience again and she has never regretted her decision. She is slowly working her way up to Senior Technician by gaining important training locally and she will also be attending a course at the TONI&GUY Academy in London this year. Heidi is delighted with the opportunites that working with TONI&GUY gives her which she would have not been able to do with other salons.

Vanessa Gatt  -Stylist


Vanessa says that she remembers why she finds her job so enjoyable every time that she sees a satisfied client leave the salon. She loves the constant contact with clients and fellow team-mates at the TONI&GUY salon. Vanessa says " It is a real pleasure to see a client smile back at us through the mirror after we've given them a new style they've been curious to try and over time they become friends more than clients. It is working atmosphere I am very happy to a part of."

Jana Theuma  - Assistant Stylist


When Jana decided to become a hairdresser she was well aware that it was a job that needed very good training. She knew that the training would be on-going to keep up with the fast changing trends, this is why she made the choice to join TONI&GUY. After Jana moved up from Junior to Assistant Stylist she now looks forward to taking the next step to become a Senior Stylist.

Sliema

Beverly Azzopardi -  Technical Director


Beverly currently occupies the managerial post of Technical Director at TONI&GUY Plaza in Sliema. She is a product of the TONI&GUY Academy and has been loyal to the franchise ever since. Specializing in colourin g techniques and developing them regularly in correspondence with TONI&GUY London makes Beverly one of the best colour technicians to be found locally. Apart from colouring Beverly has also undergone professional training in hair extensions. She has worked with famous Maltese celebrities and has been assigned roles as chief hairstylist in various photo sessions. When asked about her job Beverly admitted that in order to succeed in hairdressing every stylist should offer it as a whole experience not just a service. Beverly says "I'll work one on one with every client to ensure the client feels special. You should feel pampered; its all part of the experience. My advice to my staff is to work hard and perfect their craft. Cut and colour is like a marriage, a blissful ever lasting bond that extracts the best from eachother."

Luke Abela – Assistant Stylist


Luke is an up and coming ambitious and determined assistant stylist, specializing in male cutting. He is the stylist to approach whenever you seek that something special! "Its all about vision" Luke states. "Its true that practice makes perfect, but hairdressing is an art, and artists are born and not made." Luke is very determined in his work because he insists that the best moments in his work comes whenever he sees his client smiling genuinely through the mirror. "That little smile and nod makes my day, everyday!"

Kim Caruana – Assistant Stylist


Kim is another product of TONI&GUY Malta and has remained with the franchise. She is a very promising, young and talented stylist and will definitely make it to the top in the near future. " A great hairdresser is someone who inspires people to feel and look their best, both on the inside and on the outside. A great hairdresser in my eyes is someone who lives and breathes their passion. Someone who is creative, articulate, a great listener and has patience."

Lee Grixti – Senior Stylist


Lee Grixti started with the company at seventeen years as an apprentice and progressed as a senior member of staff in three years. He is the youngest member of the TONI&GUY team. Despite his young age he is extensivley qualified in hairdressing. This is his third year doing in the hairdressing industry and he sees not only as a job but also a hobby which he looks forward to every day. He gets most of his inspiration from Artistic Director Gordon Mayo ,and international directors that educated him while he attended courses at the TONI&GUY Academy in London. Lee is still continuing his studies and plans to attend courses at the Academy this year. His goal is not to just do a good job but to also satisfy all clients expectations..
