duality-toni-guy-3

Each year, the TONI&GUY look book reflects the elements that are the foundation to TONI&GUY’s success: hair, fashion, heritage and education.

DUALITY has been created with a sense of creative freedom and individuality in mind for the latest collection. The aim is to give a fresh and open-minded outlook on how TONI&GUY cut and colour hair.

We have put together a triptych of sectioning patterns that allows us to create a collection of looks which vary in strength, texture and shape and all with a trend-driven colour palette. These sections work by allowing different techniques to be used within the same set of sectioning patterns and we have demonstrated how they will allow us to gain contrast in the results.

The emerging trend is about working with accents of colour, versus internal softness within a technique. Boldness and partial lightener applications create editorial-inspired colours whilst colour-strobing and perimeter drifting are used to create alternative results.

Our styling triptych consists of TONI&GUY creative favourites, including: The Halo, The Angle and The Curve. For colour, we’re introducing The Crescent, The Angle and The Panelling.

There’s been a huge focus towards individuality within fashion as well as a fast shift in trends as seen during the fashion season from designers such as: House of Holland and Alexander Wang which have been inspiration for DUALITY.

London Fashion Week 2013 saw TONI&GUY as the Official Sponsor for the 17th season, and also celebrated 10 seasons working with British design sensation Giles Deacon. For the past decade TONI&GUY have created catwalk hairstyles from London to Paris.

Each season Giles showcases a new collection with an army of inspirations- our favourites including gothic disco, dinosaurs and Jacobean house-fires. Each with Giles’ signature twist of taking something unusual and creating an almost-overwhelming beauty.

The hair created for the shows has always worked in collaboration with Giles’ collections- styling everything from sleek fishtail braids, oversized beehives and disco wefts. For Giles’ SS10 show, pastel panels were created for the women, which paved the way for pastel washes and ombre trends for that summer and beyond.

I truly love the relationship I have with TONI&GUY, we’ve done some great work over the last 10 seasons and I’m hoping it’s going to continue for many more- Giles Deacon.

On the beautiful late-summer evening, while enjoying sweeping views of the Grand Harbour, an elite crowd of visitors and guests enjoyed the Gala Evening events including a lavish fashion show. celebrates-40-years

A party was held recently to celebrate Gordon Mayo’s 40 years in the hairdressing business, and the recent refurbishment of the TONI&GUY Malta salon in Gzira which has evolved into the first salon in Malta to boast the essensuals brand, the next generation of salons from the TONI&GUY empire.

Over 150 guests savoured the excellent food and flowing wine on the magnificent terrace at The Villa, while enjoying the balmy summer evening and taking in the beautiful views of Balluta Bay.  They also enjoyed stunning visuals of the new state-of-the-art essensuals salon.

In order to celebrate this impressive milestone, Mayo, Chief Executive and CEO of TONI&GUY Malta, gathered together his family, closest friends, colleagues, staff members and his clients. In a short speech, he recalled how after taking up hairdressing when he left school, he continued his studies in the UK before returning to Malta to open his first salon Gordon’s Creations in 1976. A turning point in his career was his chance encounter with a book by TONI&GUY which introduced him to the company and started off the strong relationship with the Mascolo brothers – the founders of TONI&GUY.

This led to the launch of the Maltese franchise, with the first salon in Gzira being opened in 1994 and more salons following in Paceville, The Hilton, at The Plaza and Arkadia, Gozo.  He concluded by thanking family and friends for all the priceless support and encouragement over the years; his colleagues and staff members for all the hard work that contributed to the salons’ success and last but not least his clients, who, he said, “are the backbone of any business, and you certainly have been the backbone of mine.”

indulge news

The long, sunny days of summer are coming to a close. If you spent your summer out-and-about, enjoying the sun and sea, it will have likely taken a toll on your hair’s health and lustre. All the elements of summer are against keeping your hair in its best condition. Not only is the sun hard on your hair, we also wash and comb our hair more often in summer, which can cause tearing and breaking of the cuticles which protect and strengthen the hair – called “mechanical damage”. Your hairstyle may not last as long and your hair can get frizzy, curly and your style puffy.

Fortunately, there are fantastic products and treatments available which can restore the health of your hair and the natural protection it requires. At TONI&GUY, professional Technicians will advise you on the most appropriate treatments and supply you with the latest and very best products available – bringing back your hair’s lustre for autumn and in time for the many special occasions of the coming season.

Autumn is also a perfect time for a new look. In October the TONI&GUY team will be brimming with ideas for up-to-date new looks from the London catwalks. Gordon Mayo, Chairman and CEO of TONI&GUY Malta tells us “Fringes and strong multi-colours blend in perfectly with the fashion we have seen on the catwalks this year.”

“We are seeing a trend towards ‘London Street’ – a cool vibe with strong bold shapes, interjected with hip, super-cool textures. From the 16th to the 20th September, London will start its annual Fashion Week, of which TONI&GUY is again an official sponsor.  This gives us an advance look at the spring/summer clothes and hair for 2012.

I am sure this season we are going to see exciting experiments in hairdressing with shapes and texture and I am looking forward to another great year ahead. As always, my talented team and I will pour all our creativity, energy and passion into inspirational new styles which enhance not only our clients’ hair but their overall image.”

For over 40 years, TONI&GUY has remained at the forefront of the world’s hairdressing industry. TONI&GUY Stylists have undergone the best education on the planet. It is not only the most powerful hairdressing brand in the world but also the most dynamic brand in Malta. With five salons in Portomaso, Sliema, Paceville, Gozo and the exciting new, state-of-the-art essensuals salon in Gzira…a fantastic new look awaits near you!

With over 5,000 visitors, the audience is made up of UK and International press, buyers and industry professionals including key opinion formers. Last season London Fashion Week generated over 100 million pounds worth of press coverage in the UK alone.

The BFC aims for The Exhibition to mirror the energy on the catwalk and presentation schedule.

Estethica is the BFC’s sustainable initiative sponsored by Monsoon. All potential Estethica designers must adhere to at least one of the three principles of fair-trade and ethical practices, organic and recycled materials and are selected for both their ethical credentials and design excellence. Estethica is the hub of London’s ethical fashion industry and recognised internationally as a leading showcase of ethical fashion.

The BFC NEWGEN scheme, currently sponsored by TOPSHOP was set up in 1993 with the mission of supporting the growth of original new collections which have the potential to make a mark on the international scene. Designers who have been in business for three years or less and are eligible to apply for the NEWGEN scheme and those selected will receive sponsorship and mentoring tailored to the scale and positioning of their products and businesses. Judging is undertaken voluntarily by a panel of Britain’s top editors, buyers and talent scouts who compare entrants against the standards of excellence attained by former winners including some of Britain’s highest profile designers including Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Julien Macdonald and more recently Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh, Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab, Richard Nicoll and Todd Lynn. Sarah Mower is the BFC’s Abassador for Emerging Talent and is the chair of this committee.

essentuals-in-malta

TONI&GUY Malta has announced the opening of Malta’s first Essensuals salon in Gzira. Essensuals, the next generation of award-winning salons from the renowned TONI&GUY empire, aims to provide its image-conscious clients with all of life’s essentials; the essensuals brand is dedicated to transforming catwalk-inspired trends into wearable and desirable styles to suit a client’s personality and lifestyle.

Almost 17 years after the first TONI&GUY salon opened its doors in Malta the franchise’s original outlet in Gzira has been completely transformed into the new state-of-the-art essensuals salon. Refurbished to the exacting standards and specifications of TONI&GUY, the salon provides clients with a truly exhilarating experience, featuring shampooing chairs with in-built massage capabilities and cutting and styling seating specifically chosen for elegance, ease of maintenance, and comfort.

In 1974, Gordon Mayo, now Chairman and CEO of TONI&GUY Malta, walked into a hairdressing salon in London and saw a book by the renowned stylists of TONI&GUY. From that moment on, he has been inspired by their vision, overseeing the growth of TONI&GUY Malta which has mirrored the phenomenal success of the international brand. The first European franchise of the company was opened in Germany in 1990 by Nico Puglia, who suggested to Mayo that he approach Toni Mascolo and his brother Anthony (the artistic director of the TONI&GUY academy) with the proposal to open a franchise in Malta. “I did exactly that”, explains Mayo, “and the idea was finally approved. This was 1991 and it took me a good three years to get the franchise up and running and finally, the Gzira salon was launched in June 1994.”

Mayo has maintained a brilliant relationship with the Mascolo brothers ever since, during which TONI&GUY Malta has seen the launch of new salons at Hilton Portomaso, Paceville, the Plaza, Sliema, and Arkadia in Gozo.

Mayo sees the refurbishment of the original Gzira salon as merely the first step in even further expansion and is especially excited about the opportunity to open the first salon in Malta to boast the essensuals brand. “I would love to see many more salons here in Malta taking on TONI&GUY brands”, Mayo elaborates.

Mr Mayo comments that the refurbishment is “designed to meet TONI&GUY founder and CEO Toni Mascolo’s idea of the perfect salon. We look forward to welcoming our valued customers and many new clients to this exciting new experience in hairdressing.”
